TOFT proudly presents a brand new Primate Magazine, containing a curated selection of monkey and ape crochet projects to keep your hooks busy this Summer. It was back in 2015 that some of these patterns first started to take shape. It was one of TOFT’s first ever community projects to inspire people to crochet and a fundraiser with our #crochetjungle that inspired the primate collection to begin its journey to what you see today.
Over the last six years Kerry Lord has designed lots of new primates as she has explored new jungles and rainforests around the world. For this magazine she has chosen fifteen Monkey and Ape amigurumi crochet patterns for some of the rarest and most endangered primate species found around the world for you to crochet.
Inside this 37 page special magazine you will find two brand new amigurumi crochet animal patterns - Leah the Marmoset and Zeus the Mandrill are the latest primates to join the menagerie here at TOFT. There are five endangered species patterns, Yvonne the Lion Tailed Macaque, Joan the Bonobo, Keith the Proboscis Monkey, Franklin the Colobus Monkey and Balthazar the Golden Lion Tamarin.
These cute amigurumi primates have been designed by Kerry Lord with an array of pattern levels to suit every age and ability, in total there are 15 easy to crochet patterns in the Primates magazine, so let me introduce you to a few of them :
If you are new to crochet then Joan the Bonobo is a favourite of TOFT’s to start with. She is one of the easier makes to master all the crochet pattern basics with. She is an endangered Great Ape crochet pattern that we think would be a great addition to any TOFT fan’s crochet collection. Bonobos are known as the friendly apes and are found in the lowland rainforests along the south bank of the Congo River.
Zeus the Mandrill is one of the latest primates to join the Edward’s Menagerie family and certainly the most colourful! He is an intermediate crochet pattern, meaning that this crochet project is suitable for those with crochet experience and are ready to tackle some fun techniques such as loop stitch. Mandrills are shy and reclusive characters that live only in the rainforests of equatorial Africa, selecting a different tree each evening to sleep in to stay safe and away from predators.
Declan the Slow Loris is one of the rarest nocturnal primates to live in bamboo forests and along the east of the Mekong River in Vietnam, Laos, eastern Cambodia, and China. They are snakelike in their movements making them one of the slowest of all the primates to live in trees. Declan is an easy crochet project, perfect for enthusiastic beginners or those who have done a bit of crochet before.
To coincide with our Primate launch TOFT’s monkey and ape crochet projects, will be packed into our brand new limited edition Primate draw string back pack. The perfect larger project bag for taking your latest #edsanimals makes on the go this Summer.
Kerry Lord designed these limited edition, bespoke draw string tote bags especially for your primates to arrive in, so get your orders in quick as once they are gone, they are GONE!
It is so easy to make your primates larger too, just use exactly the same patterns you have been given in the magazine, but swap your yarn for TOFT ARAN and a 5mm hook or TOFT CHUNKY and a 8mm hook. For guidance on your yarn quantities you can refer to our Ed’s index at toftuk.com.
We really hope that you enjoy making these monkey and ape crochet projects as much as we did designing them for you.
