Merida the Vampire Squid emerged from the depths of the sea to join our Edward’s Menagerie Halloween collection in 2021, designed by Kerry Lord. Merida’s pattern is a fantastic choice for a confident crafter and looks magnificent in TOFT’s DK pure wool yarn.
Despite its name, the vampire squid is in fact neither blood-sucking or a squid! It has eight tentacles like an octopus, but has a pair of filaments that could be derived from the two arms of a squid, and it is covered in a sticky mucus that traps 'marine snow' that drifts down to the depths of the ocean from surface waters, which it then eats. The vampire squid is the only known cephalopod that doesn't consume live prey, which leaves only its appearance lending it the scientific name 'vampyroteuthis infernalis' or 'the vampire squid from hell'.

YOU WILL NEED: To complete your crochet animal you will need a few added extras including a 3mm crochet hook, toy stuffing and a wool needle. Find everything you need in our haberdashery section or upgrade to a complete kit which includes all of the above!
MEASUREMENTS: When finished your Vampire Squid will be approximately 38cm tall from top of mantle to bottom of cloak.
SKILL LEVEL 3: This kit is more suitable for those with some crochet experience.
IT WILL TAKE: Approximately 10-15 hours crochet time.
